The London Borough of Barnet is a London borough within North London sitting in Outer London. Bordering Hertfordshire to the north and 5 other London boroughs, namely, Harrow and Brent to the west, Camden and Haringey to the south east with Enfield in the east. Formed in 1965 it sits across the counties of Middlesex and Hertfordshire.  The Borough of Barnet covers a range of hills to the northern edge of what is known as the London Basin.  To the north and on the eastern side is Barnet, often referred to as High Barnet or even Chipping Barnet, Totteridge, and Whetstone. To the north but on the western side sits Edgware and Mill Hill. The central part of the borough is mainly beautiful countryside. This difference is largely because the eastern area grew around what is now seen as the High Barnet Underground station.  Moving south, the development becomes increasingly more high density near the areas of Cricklewood, Colindale, Hendon, Finchley. Golders Green which is well known for its Jewish community is a part of the south of the borough, as with Hampstead Garden and Childs Hill.

There are several libraries in the Borough of Barnet, and a local studies and archives library.  A lot of the borough is inside the Green Belt, and has a high number of parks and wide open spaces. Additionally there are large areas now used as cemeteries and golf courses, and Hampstead Heath, and Golders Hill Park. Barnet has 16 parks, nine of which received a Green Flag Award. This wonderful borough of London has 67 Nature Reserves.
